    Much was made, ahead of the royal wedding, of the many things Meghan would have to “give up” after joining The Firm. Social media accounts? Goodbye. Selfies? Farewell. Tights? So long. Also on the list: dark nail polish. It’s believed that since the Queen favours a sheer pink herself – rumoured to be Essie’s Ballet Slippers – the rest of the royal family is expected to follow suit. Which, of course, makes the inky, glossy hue the Duchess chose for the Fashion Awards a particularly bold choice.

    But then, this is a Duchess that likes to bend the rules. From her continual PDA with Prince Harry to her pleasingly human (yet somehow headline-grabbing) instinct to close her own car door, there’s a satisfyingly headstrong element to Meghan’s public persona that makes her the most unpredictable (except, possibly, Charlotte) and interesting addition to the royal family yet. And let’s face it, dark nails are by far the most chic option once winter rolls around. For the record, our money is on CND Shellac’s Dark Dahlia as the royal hue of choice. In fact, we’re wearing it right now.
